Customer Review: "Talk" is Coldplay's first club single
Several single versions of Coldplay's "Talk" have been released to date, most which contain live tracks as B-sides. However, you may not know it, but several club mixes of "Talk" have been made as well, and the track is fast becoming Coldplay's first real club hit. (A remix of "Clocks" also got some play in clubs but not to this extent.) While at first glance this may seem surprising it actually makes perfect sense. You see, the melody of "Talk" is actually sampled from Kraftwerk's 1983 electronic single "Computerlove". The remixes of "Talk" are official mixes and have been promoted to clubs in both the U.S. and overseas. Thus far, I haven't seen any of the "Talk" remixes included on a the maxi single releases, but they may be included at some point. However, they are available on iTunes, and definitely worth purchasing. The remixes promoted in the U.S. include the Junkie XL and Francois K mixes. Junkie XL has done a number of notable club remixes of rock tracks in the last couple of years. Their mix is outstanding - it maintains the beauty and emotional intimacy of the song but adds a distinctive "buildup" at the beginning and a strong rhythm underneath to bring it up to a whole new level. The Francois K remix of "Talk" is a complete reworking of the song - bringing it more in style towards Kraftwerk's original "Computerlove". Very electronic, very "detached" - definitely quite an accomplishment but in my opinion not as good as the Junkie XL mix. "Talk" will reach #3 on the Billboard Dance/Club Chart as of early March 2006.
Customer Review: Only B-side!
I just got this today and there is only the Sleeping Sun song and the radio edit version of Talk. There is contradictory information on this page and, even though I would have bought it anyway, it was quite a disappointment when I opened it up and saw only one. :( Maybe there's a version out there with both b-sides, but I haven't found it yet. The Sleeping Sun song is great, of course.

Guitar and Rock music are inseparable and probably one of the main reasons for this is that most rock numbers or compositions have short or prolonger lead guitar solos. The lead guitar solos can be mastered by using different scales and guitar improvisation techniques like hybrid picking and legato technique.

There is such a huge variety of guitar improvisation techniques available that you can practice solos all your life and yet not find the end. It is infinite! One such guitar improvisation technique is called hybrid picking. Hybrid picking can add an absolutely new dimension to the sound that is rendered by your lead guitar. This is a type of guitar improvisation technique that is most commonly used by guitarists in music genres or styles like blues, rock, country, bluegrass, and even jazz. One of guitar legends who has used hybrid picking very effectively is Stevie Ray Vaughan. He used it for rendering a solo in Lenny Here's a small exercise in hybrid picking that you can try:

Hybrid picking is a guitar improvisation technique where you pick the guitar strings or chords using the fingers as well as the pick at the same time. The advantage is that you will be able to use your plectrum to play lead guitar that normally requires the fingerstyle mode of playing.

You will also be able to make wide string leaps like you can leap from the 5th string right to the 1st string, which can be quite a difficult exercise otherwise. To effectively use the hybrid picking guitar improvisation technique, you will need to your pick between your forefinger and thumb.

Legato Technique

The legato technique is another effective guitar improvisation technique that renders slurred notes quite similar to the notes rendered through hammer-on's and pull-offs. Here is a small exercise that includes some kick ass legato licks:

Legato guitar improvisation technique has been effectively used for solo performance by the likes of Joe Satriani, Alan Holdsworth, and Steve Vai. The above notes that form the legato technique will require you to hammer the notes without picking. You should ideally play this at 60bpm.

Customer Review: What does one say?
This is a MASSIVE book (262 pages!) of latin bass in all it's various styles. We are not talking simple repetive patterns here either, we are talking from moderate to complex lines with excellent notation and a top notch CD set behind it. If you want to learn Latin Bass, you can start here, and stop here, as you won't find more and better probably anywhere else. Although it is not a Real Book, You can think of that kind of setup and variety.
Customer Review: Good intro to latin bass playing
This book is well thought, thorough and enjoyable. Comes with 3 CDs that stand alone on their own, if you don't mind having bass on one side and the rest of the band on the other. This arrangement allows you to pan the track and play along with the band, or focus on the bass line only. I googled some of the guys who play with Oscar in these CDs and they are first rate musicians with impressive resumes (try Rebeca Mauleón). It comes with no tab, but the first bass lines are simple enough so it wouldn't be a bad place to start reading, and once you understand the beats and where the bassline falls, you should be in a good position to read almost anything! The book takes you to a series of concepts that become more complex from track to track in a well thought way, so you build on your understanding of the subject. Probably the hardest part is to keep yourself from dancing while you play along to the CDs! A good purchase.

Magic is an art of several kinds, we know. Generally, close up, conjuring, mentalism and stage shows are the categories. Sleights of hand and illusion magic (sleights on stage!) are yet another. Some even divide magic according to the props used - cards, coins, ropes or apparently bigger instruments and so on.

Classification becomes complex when it is done in terms of the effect produced: transformation, transposition, telepathy, vanishing, appearing and what not!

Have you ever noticed that even amid such a fascinating diversity, magic is an art of socialism? In magic, the trick you perform using a coin or a feat you accomplish using a huge illusion prop, leaves the same shock of amazement in the minds of the viewers. This is one aspect of that socialism.

Whatever preparations you do, how much you talk, whatever backdrops you use, to measure the value of your performance, the layman has got just one occasion: the moment when the effect emerges. Yes, nothing but only the effect prompts your spectators to certify the magic they see. If the effect fails, everything fails - the speech, the decors, the music, the costume, all turns vain.

A rich magician should not necessarily gain audience praise simply because he has invested a lot, unless he takes care of the beauty of his effects. A financially feeble magician, on the other hand, may earn more accolades simply for being so perfect with his effects. Thus magic upholds another aspect of socialism.

There was a magician, who at first used to get not the money he expected, but what the organizers decided. Undeterred, the magician invested a good part of his meager income for replenishing more cute effects. The demand increased. At last he got the ball in his court. He got that freedom to pick the most appropriate client and most legitimate fee. Remember, this is magical socialism. In magic opportunities are equal.

In magic, not the money, but your creativity makes you a prudent investor.

The music industry has been bemoaning its fate, as the costs of promoting artists and their songs soar while sales slump. It seems that it's facing a slow, self-inflicted implosion. It blames its demise on the Internet and the easy access that fans have to music that has yet to be released for public consumption. Independent record labels, on the other hand, are reveling in the public attention that the Internet brings to their artists. According to independent record labels, business is booming and prospects have never looked better.

An expense that major record companies have that Indie labels have been clever enough to avoid is playtime on commercial radio stations. Major labels have to pay from $400,000 up, in order to get one song on air. Indie labels tend not to even approach large commercial stations as they know that they can't afford all the promotion costs that are included in the deal. They prefer to work with college and public radio stations that are usually more receptive to music that is not mainstream and conformist.

Another marketing strategy that has helped to increase album sales for indie labels is that they target consumers who are still willing to pay for music. This group consists mostly of grown-ups who feel that they have to pay for what they own and don't have a "if I can get it for free I will" attitude. Adults have a greater sense of ethical responsibility and a respect for hard work, and are less likely to download music for free.

Many artists are adopting a more extreme independent approach by forming their own record labels. This allows them to have complete creative control over the record making process and is the ultimate in self-expression for any indie artist.

Most artists think that signing with a major label will be their ticket to the big time and that the money will come rolling in. In fact, artists have to sell about 1 million albums before they start seeing their share of the profits, as their studio time and all of the "perks" of the business, such as the limo rides, are charged against their royalties.
