" Coldplay " X & Y: It's Easy To Play (It's Easy to Play)

There is some debate about the exact origins of salsa dance, but one thing is certain -- it first began as a dance form during the 1940s in New York City. According to which source you read, salsa dance was created by either Puerto Rican or Cuban immigrants at that time. The truth is probably lies in the middle somewhere, but there's one thing that no one questions: if you haven't learned to salsa dance yet, you're missing out on a lot of excitement!

Salsa has always been popular since it first began, but with the popularity of TV shows like 'Dancing With The Stars', the popularity of salsa dance is at an all-time high. It's also coincided with the rising popularity of Latin music in general over the past ten years, and so today the salsa dance craze is at a fever pitch. Now you can find a salsa nightclub in every major city in the U.S., so if you've ever wanted to learn salsa there's never been a better time.

If you've never danced salsa before, it can look like a very intimidating dance for the beginner. But with patience and the right instruction, it's very easy! Like any dance, it's simply a matter of learning the basic dance steps and then building on them by adding some personal styling as you become more adept.

There are many ways you can learn salsa, and there isn't any one way that works for everyone. If you're brave enough you can just start going to Latin nightclubs and get out on the dance floor, and try to copy what the more experienced dancers are doing. But for most people, it helps to learn at least some of the basics before trying out your moves on a public dance floor. There are two main ways that people learn to salsa dance: either with salsa lessons in a class setting, or through salsa dance videos.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both methods of learning salsa, and the best choice just depends on your personal learning style and the flexibility of your schedule. Learning with a salsa video is certainly convenient, and if you have a tight schedule it may be your only option. But if you can fit salsa lessons into your schedule, you'll also have the added advantage of a great opportunity to meet new friends with a common interest - and maybe even find a new few friends to go Latin nightclubbing with!

Whichever method you choose, if you want to learn salsa just get out there and DO it. You'll get a fantastic workout, and it's also one of the easiest ways possible to add some excitement to your life!

Deborah Avery is an Internet marketer who just happens to have a passion for Latin music and salsa dancing.

Stem Cell Symphony: A Novel

Stuart Matheson, 32, is trapped in a nursing home as well as his body, eerily immobile at the last stage of Huntington's Disease. Kelsey Raye is a science writer feeling guilty about the recent deaths of her parents. She volunteers for hospice and is assigned to Stuart. She's a PhD, he never finished school, but they share a love of rock music and disdain of religion. They instantly bond.

As Kelsey plays her iPod daily for Stuart, he improves - an impossibility - and when she misses a few days, he backslides. She deduces that Stuart's gains follow hearing U2 or their imitators. Kelsey, who writes about stem cells, thinks the frequency of the arpeggios is turning on stem cells in Stuart's brain. She shares her idea with researcher Peter Holloway, but evil Nurse Smithies overhears and outs them to a tabloid. Meanwhile, Peter scans Stuart's brain. He's getting better!

All hell breaks loose when the tabloid hits. The government shuts down Peter's lab and confiscates Kelsey's iPod, while anti-stem cell protestors harass them -- just as Peter discovers how music stimulates stem cells. Then something unexpected happens. Did science fail, or was it the anti-science forces?

The underlying love story and comical cast of characters propel this parallel tale of emerging spirituality and an evolving medical technology. Many of the characters and scenes are based on real people, and the science dead-on accurate - with the one tweak of the music turning on stem cells.

It could happen.
Customer Review: Entertaining, informative, and inspiring
It's very refreshing to read a novel that is so well grounded in science and real life. This book has all the fictional elements of a great novel, yet you learn some things about science along the way through the book. I particularly liked the section on Congressional testimony. And I can personally relate to some of the nursing home scenes. Great job!
Customer Review: A good read AND informative!
Ricki Lewis' novel is the story of a young science writer who, as a hospice volunteer, finds herself inexplicably helping a patient with an incurable disease. It is current both in terms of discussing the science of the stem cell technology we hear so much about these days, but also in its musical references, like U2 and Coldplay (two artists included in a recent planetarium show I visited in the Rose Space Center in NYC.) There is a love interest with a twist, and I found myself gripped by the unknowns presented in the thickening plots. The cast of characters was eccentric but believable. Their actions felt so real sometimes, I found myself wondering if portions of the story were based on real events. What I perhaps liked the best was that the uplifting ending suggested that the miracle of art (in this case music) can inexplicably have a profound scientific effect on our bodies in ways we have perhaps not yet discovered. If there are not medical researchers out there testing out Dr. Lewis' "novel" hypotheses- there should be! I found myself learning about science while enjoying the story. This was a good read- I highly suggest it!

Have you ever wondered how piano tuners learn their trade? Most tuners learn the business from a family member. In fact, piano tuning often spans several generations in a family, handed down from father to son.

There are good tuners and great tuners, but in any case they have to learn a craft that is several hundred years old and has changed little.

There are three distinct types of tuners: tuners, repairmen and rebuilders. Usually a tuner works their way up from simple tuning to the more difficult task of repair and then rebuilding.

A tuner can expect $100 per tuning, but if they work for someone else they may take home only half of that. Still, it is a job much in demand.

The average tuning takes at least an hour, and requires quiet and solitude, although the very best tuners, usually working for a large firm like Steinway, can expect to be on call for the most famous concert pianists.

These superstars of the piano business hover backstage at major concerts, waiting for the occasional string to break so they can vault out onto the stage and fix it in front of thousands of people.

One such tuner superstar is Franz Mohr, who was tuner and repairman for two legendary pianists, Vladimir Horowitz and Artur Rubinstein. As an employee of the Steinway Company, he was delegated to accompany either of these two great artists on their world travels, tuning hammer and pliers at the ready, in case something should go wrong, \he most dramatic being a string breaking during a concert.

Mohr became a personal friend of both Rubinstein and Horowitz, was part of their international entourage.

Mohr selected pianos for Horowitz, for Horowitz never took a "company" piano. By this you must understand that great concert pianists are sometimes forced to play on a variety of instruments in their travels. The only solution to this problem of inconsistency is to take a piano with you, and this is very, very expensive, requiring genuine superstar status.

Horowitz had his favorite Steinway 9 foot concert grand, and he kept it at home. When a concert tour came, the neighbors of his New York City Upper East Side townhouse were used to the sight of the immense piano being lowered slowly out the window and onto a waiting truck.

Mohr and other great tuners I have known like Steinway's Heinz Zimmerman were artists in their own right. To tune and repair a piano for a professional pianist is an extremely demanding job, for the results must in fact be perfect. Every key must feel exactly the same. Every key must feel, to the artist, as if they have the same weight, the same feel, the same speed. The process that achieves this at the piano is called "regulation," and may take several days to adjust the thousands of tiny moving parts

There is no better feeling to a great pianist than a great piano, perfectly tuned and regulated, waiting for beautiful music to be played.

Learning jazz guitar can be intimidating and overwhelming for a beginning student. Unlike styles like rock, blues, and classical, jazz guitar demands that a musician master a wide variety of skills, including jazz guitar scales.

If you are absolutely fresh on jazz guitar, the first thing you've got to wrap your fingers around is the major scale and its modes. It's the reference against which all other scales are defined. Learn them in position as well as up and down single strings. It's also cool to practice them in one, two, and three octaves.

Once you've got those under your fingers and in your ears, it's time to start learning the melodic minor scale on guitar. The difference between a melodic minor scale and a major scale is only one note, the flat third. The melodic minor scale also has some really cool sounding modes, like lydian dominant which works over a 7#11 chord.

It's also important to learn your pentatonic scales. Most guitarists coming from a rock, blues, or country background are already familiar with the minor and major pentatonic scales, and if you aren't you have to check them out. The blues scale is also useful.

A common trap that students of jazz guitar fall into is only practicing scales up and down. Of course, it's important and is the first step to mastering jazz guitar scales. But if you're at a point where it's comfortable to play ascending and descending scales and you feel comfortable with the notes, the next step is to start practicing intervals and sequences. Also, try to vary the rhythm in your scale practice.

Learning jazz guitar scales is an essential part of mastering jazz guitar.

I like to play guitar. Check out my website.

Everywhere I go there seems to be some sophisticated discussion or debate about what's wrong with the music industry and what needs to be done to fix it. The conversation takes place in offices among professionals who have been around long enough to know that things are indeed different, and at industry conferences among music artists who revel in new found optimism that infrastructure changes and the arrival of the new digital/mobile entertainment era will "level" the playing field and create more income opportunities.

As tempting as it may be, I am not enamored with or preoccupied by the current problems that face the music industry. Issues such as declining record sales; the consolidation of radio stations; the constant merging of record labels; the lack of longevity in the "careers" of music artists; declining CD sales; or any myriad of issues regarding the illegal downloading of music on the Internet. Why? Because while so many in the music industry (professionals and artists alike) spend countless hours lamenting over things that they can't control, I only focus on the things that are within my control such as my professional pursuits, income generating activities, and investing in profitable relationships.

Most importantly, my business model is based on my passions because while I know that the economy will always fluctuate up or down, and industry trends will turn hot and cold in the blink of an eye, my love for what I do is a constant and remains unaffected.

In 1999 I had the pleasure of meeting and briefly talking to Barry White at a party for the release of "Love Unlimited," his semi-autobiographical book on his adventures in life, love and the music
industry. When he asked me what I did for a living, I told him I was a music industry consultant. Barry, who was much darker in person than he is on television and in his videos, flashed some of the whitest teeth you could ever imagine and said, "I don't know what that is, but as long as you believe in what you do, that's all that counts."

I went on to enthusiastically explain to him what I did as a music business consultant, asking him for advice and hogging up his limited time in the process. He stopped me before I could really dive deep into it and interjected in his sincere, rich baritone voice, the advice that I still follow to this very day, "Constantly re-commit yourself to what you do and the money will follow..."

We all need to re-commit from time to time. We all lose sight of what we actually do for a living and the reasons why we do it, but the long roots of true passion run deep...and even when the tree is cut down by unfair business practices, a gluttony of superficial encounters, busted deals, a never ending parade of fakes and flakes, unpredictable and unforseen circumstances, technological changes, and rampant un-professionalism that plagues the industry, you endure because you know that at the end of the day you are truly passionate about what you do and it all becomes a mere occupational hazard that you learn how to deal with.

While many aspiring industry professionals have fashionably set their sights on the greener pastures of the music business, prostituting their values for the sake and pursuit of money, the vast majority will not obtain the riches they so desperately seek, nor will they be in it for the long haul. Why? Because they lack vision, focus, commitment, and above all else, true passion for what they do - which brings us to the question: what's love got to do with it? When it comes to art, you would think everything, but the sad truth is that there are many in the music industry that are more passionate about self-serving interests, than they are about music as an art form (unless, of course, the music we are speaking of is their own).

And what about all the "changes" that people are talking about so adamantly? History shows that this industry is always changing. The industry never stops changing; technologically; structurally; logistically; and creatively. Adaptability is a requirement of success in every industry because change. The music industry was predicated on change and entrepreneurship.

Can we deny the entrepreneurial spirit of Apple and their convictive belief in iTunes? Or the unyielding belief that the creators of American Idol have in their little "talent" show? I can't, nor can you, because
that's what happens when you are passionate about your business ideas: they become business opportunities.

So for those who are distracted by the changes that are taking place in the industry, my free, but valuable advice to all of you is to focus on what you love to do. Your passion is the intangible that will increase the value of your product or service. Your business needs and opportunities will announce themselves at the appropriate time. Until then, rekindle your love affair with your business or art, because in the end, love has everything to do with the reason you do it in the
first place.

Antonio Carlos Jobim: An All Star Tribute

WINNER OF...
1995 JazzTimes Reader Poll- Best Video- First Runner Up

Direct from Brazil in his last recorded performance, Antoine Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) is joined by an international delegation of jazz giants to recreate his classic melodies in a beautiful, concert-length “Thank You.” With over four hundred songs to his credit including the unforgettable Girl From Ipanema, Jobim virtually single handedly brought the world Bossa Nova by adapting the percussive excitement of the samba to the intimacy of the guitar while echoing the melodies and harmonies of Cool Jazz. This classic, concert-length "Thank You" includes: Girl From Ipanema, Once I Loved, O Grande Amor, No More Blues, Wave and more
Customer Review: Farewell To A Legend
"Tom" Jobim died only a few months after this concert, so it was one of his last performances. He was truly a legend and if you love music you really need to acquaint yourself with his. Beautifully complex rhythms and harmonies that do not wear thin with repeated listening--the hallmark of great music. Even without understanding the lyrics his music evokes combinations of deep emotions, including a sad/sweet longing that has no English translation from the Portuguese. I'll not mention all of the artists that appear in this concert, but only draw your attention to Gal Costa, who has become one of my favorite Brazilian singers. Check out her earlier CDs. You will not be disappointed!
Customer Review: Impressive
Before watching this DVD I had never heard of Gal Costa. What a pleasant surprise to see her perform. Antonio himself appears in this one for Luiza and Wave: very nice. I couldn't appreciate John Henricks performance, too much scatting and not very good. That's just my opinion. Gonzalo Rubalcaba didn't impress me either. For me, the real standout performance was by Gal Costa. She does very cool A Felicidade with Herbie; and then an amazing So Todos Fossem Iguais a Voce. Also, Herbie is an amazing keyboard player. It is as though the instrument is part of him. Buy it!

Potential is a key component in the ability to master success. Yet, have you ever thought about the 3 qualities that are needed to temper your own potential?

Temper comes from the Latin word temparare that means to regulate. In modern times, the word has come to mean to harden such as in metal.

Herbert Bayard Swope wrote: You never will be the person you can be, if pressure, tension and discipline are taken out of of your life.

These 3 qualities will regulate your potential, will temper your potential and ultimately contribute to your ability to master success or the continued inability to master success.

Pressure is a quality that molds individuals. How you respond to various pressures showcases your potential. Pressure can reveal certain potential strengths that you did not know that you had.

To understand the word tension begins by learning its origin. Tension is also Latin in its origin and comes from the word tendere that means to stretch. How much can you stretch yourself? Tension is the result constantly being stretched.

With the W.A.Y. S.M.A.R.T. or S.M.A.R.T. goal criteria, the R means to construct your goals realistically high so that you have to stretch. When achievement comes easy, we as humans have a tendency to become complacent.

Discipline is another Latin word and comes from two words: dis means apart and capere means hold. Today discipline involves training that develops self control or character in which you hold yourself apart from the rest. Effective leadership or rather self-leadership is really about self-control and character.

When you look at your own personal and professional achievements, if you removed the pressure, the tension and the discipline from your life would you have these successes?

Now take a look at your life from a different lens. What would happen if you applied a little more pressure, tension and discipline to your life? Would you have tapped into more of your potential and realize even a greater ability to master success?

Stepping is a rhythmic performance art practiced by Black Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities across the nation. It combines intricate footwork, foot stomps, hand movements, vocals, and handclaps. Stepping is also an expression of unity.

"When you come together in synchronized motions, you're becoming one," says Aurelius Butler, Treasurer of Alpha Phi Alpha, Mu chapter. "For us, stepping signifies brotherhood. We will never tell a brother he couldn't step. If he's a bad stepper, he's just going to have to try harder."

Stepping evolved from the chants and dances that slaves did to remind themselves of their homelands. You can find stepping wherever you find African America Greek-lettered fraternities.

Stepping is an age-old tradition among black fraternities and sororities. It involves intricate footwork, specialized hand movements, songs and chants. But what is it really about Stepping that these college students find so compelling? This is what they're saying:

"Dancing has always been a means of expression in African culture," Reginald Price, a fourth-year business management and marketing student, is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, said. "Over time it has evolved into stepping."

"A step can be created at any given time," Price said. "A designated step master views step shows from other chapters of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and adds his own style and flair."

"To me stepping is a way to show what your fraternity represents through both words and performance," said Marcus Bryant, a fourth-year electrical engineering student and member of Phi Beta Sigma.

"Our steps have been passed down each year through the generations of Sigmas," Bryant said.

"You're creating beauty and dance out of nothing but you and your (sisters), and that's a special thing," says Ashanti Huey, fourth-year public relations student and member of Sigma Gamma Rho. "On the other hand, it means long nights with no sleep, sweating like crazy and losing weight from the workout."

Davida Isaac, a third-year early childhood education student and member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority says, "When we step, we are very sharp and crisp with our movements. It sounds like one beat and looks like one movement."

Mastering and performing this dance form is a traditional part of the initiation process in many African American sororities and fraternities, but stepping has more recently become a popular activity for children and teens.

Stepping now occurs almost everywhere. College dorms at HBCUs have teams, predominantly White fraternities and sororities may step during Greek Week. High school and youth groups step, as well as some church youth groups. Furthermore, stepping is very popular with other culturally-based fraternal organizations--Latin, Asian, and multicultural.

Whatever their ideas of the performance art, Stepping, all step team members agree that the dance unifies them and reminds them of their African roots. Because of its reliance on rhythm, it is very fascinating to watch groups of young men and women moving to a single beat in unison, a reminder of a time when all African Americans shared the same pain and heartbreak of days when they were slaves.

MyStepShow.com is a free video sharing community website that features step team performances. Members can post and share video footage of their stepteam performances. Visit http://www.MyStepShow.com to learn more about the tradition of stepping.

Parachutes

Customer Review: Another Import CD of "Parachutes" with Great Bonus Tracks
It's been 4+ years since the original release of Coldplay's debut album in the UK (the US release would follow in Nov. 2000), and as the phenom called Coldplay is getting bigger and bigger, it's now clear that "Parachutes" is a classic, in every sense of the word. By now, the original 10 tracks of the album all have become so instantly familiar, yet never tiresome. There is of course "Yellow", the US break-through single but for me probably the weakest track on the set. Check out instead "Shiver", "Don't Panic" (with the immortal line "We Live in a Beautiful World"), "Trouble" and Sparks", 4 other singles from the album (all of them still available on Amazon). This import version of "Parachutes" (14 tracks, 56 min.) comes with 4 additional tracks on a separate CD: "Sparks" in the album version (nothing new here), but then also "Careful Where You Stand" which is a b-side from the "Shiver" single, "Yellow" in an accoustic version that in my opinion is actually better than the original version, and the hauntingly beautiful "See You Soon", which originally appeared on the "Blue Room" EP. Both "Careful" and "See You Soon" are essentials in the Coldplay catalogue. We now await Coldplay's new album, which supposedly will come out in Spring 2005. Who knows whether that's gonna be any good, but for sure it's gonna be a monster, and Coldplay is well on its way to be the next U2. Meanwhile, enjoy the humble and intimate debut album which I dare say Chris and the boys will never surpass.
Customer Review: A Breath of fresh air
When I first heard "Yellow" by Coldplay, the thing that caught my attention was how smooth this band's sound was. Upon purchasing the album, I found that I couldn't take it out of my CD player for weeks. Coldplay is definitely a breath of fresh air in the music world. The album follows, almost methodically, a perfect pattern from song-to-song. If you're one who likes to listen to an album all the way through, this album gladly gives you the honor. I recommend it to anyone in need of comfort on a cloudy day.

Multicore

Kalimoto have quite a unique sound, as anyone who has seen them live, or heard their cd's or mp3's will testify. Their sound might even be described as a testament to a variety of influences, although these influences are not always so obvious. Some critics have described the band as "goth", others as "indie pop", others as "alternative rock", others as "funky space rock"!

Reviewers have made various comparisons as diverse as Mansun, Verve, Coldplay, Doves, Clash, U2, Chameleons, The The, The Jam and Oasis right through to Simon & Garfunkel to DJ Shadow even.....

If you've not heard them, check them out and judge for yourself! I think you'll agree, they are difficult to pigeon-hole and great to listen to.

It was sunset. The wind rode on the sharp edges of the mountains dragging the last bit of color away from the darkening hills. In a small cradle of two hills lay a beautiful girl. Her hair was long and soft, and when it touched the wind no other beauty could compare to it. She had a long face and brilliant searching brown eyes. Her feet were perfectly conformed, but were not like everybody else's who surrounded her. This girl's belly was not thin and it was not bulging, but was somewhere in between, and was the perfect shape. She stood up. Her long hair covering her body like a coat. The wind pushed against her forehead, cooling the nearly invisible sweat.

Others gathered around her, watching her intently. She began to move in a slow, but upbeat rhythm. It grew very quiet. The others continued to look at her, and started to wonder why she had begun to dance when the music hadn't started. The girl's curves moved back and forth and her hands danced their own dance around her stomach. Back and forth she moved until the earth seemed to move and the mountains rumble. The grass quivered back and forth at the eerie silence. She stopped. The ring of quiet shadowed everyone's ears. The beautiful girl opened her mouth. A long sweet tone emerged from her lips. The gazing onlookers listened intently to the wonderful sound. The girl dropped down to a very low pitch and then swerved back up like a bird that was getting too close to the ground. She sang and sang as if she were pouring her inside beauty out to the others. Her voice stopped, and once again silence covered everything.

The girl's body began to move again, but this time it was much slower and seemed more meaningful. Soon the others were bobbing their heads and moving to something unheard. It was the music of their souls. The girl sped up her dance, leaving all of the others to dance their own rhythm. Soon the girl was dancing so hard to the music inside of her that she suddenly stopped and began to run. Blood thumped in her temples and her gorgeous hair flowed back away from her face. Her long sleek body seemed to move with the wind, and her feet with the earth. The girl ran and ran, and when she got to the top of her favorite hill she stopped. Her breathing came harshly, making her nostrils flare for air. She smiled and took a minute to grasp the beauty around her. The smell of wild flowers hung in her nostrils, and the earth cuddled her feet. In the near distance she spotted a small forest and hundreds of night creatures lurking about. Quickly she turned around to look at the others. Their music was still playing within their bodies. The girl was satisfied. Once again she had taught to listen not only to your mind but also to the music, the real music that plays inside of you.

The girl began to laugh. This was no ordinary laugh though -- it was a laugh that was a slightly haunting and scary. Her eyes sparkled and she laughed on. Once again she had gotten away with her secret. Once again she had done something all of the others said she couldn't do. The girl reared up in triumph, showing off her glimmering hoofs and long mane. A long whinny rose from her throat and she galloped home.

The dancer's secret was revealed...

Customer Review: Singer ain't that good
I was given this album as a gift three years ago and while it was new to me I immediately noticed that the lead vocalist had no idea of how to break away from singing very "clunkily" in syllables...to every song!!! I haven't read all the reviews to this album (would take days) but wonder if he annoys anyone else as much as he annoys me?
Customer Review: Phenomenal
The Coldplay album to get if you're only going to get one, but all of them are good. this isn't as mellow or low-key as Parachutes. amazing orchestration, sweeping melodies. i admit this isn't for everyone.. some may find it depressing but i think the songs aren't straight depressing- they're more bittersweet, melancholy, hopeful. simple lyrics everybody can relate to. i still play this cd all the way through sometimes and i've had it for years.

There is nothing like watching salsa dancers. They are so confident, sexy and dynamic. The music makes you want to get out there and dance too. So let's go. Yes, you! You can do this! Everybody has a little Salsa in their soul.

Like its culinary namesake, the Salsa is spicy and complex in flavor, yet surprisingly easy to create. Salsa can combine elements of several different dances such as the Mambo, the Cha Cha, the Rumba, Jazz and Latin Ballroom, among others. Salsa is a free and expressive dance that is continually evolving as newer and more diverse elements are incorporated into the style. Salsa has become extremely popular all over the world. You can go to a Salsa club just about anywhere you go now. From Sydney to Shanghai, everyone is learning to Salsa.

When you first become drawn to Salsa and begin to think about taking some classes, you may be a little intimidated. Salsa dancers with years of experience can make the most complex footwork and turn patterns look effortless, but that's not how any of them started. We all start at the beginning, and the beginning is just as fun as the more advanced moves you see in competitions. You don't have to learn any of the more elaborate moves to feel right at home in a Salsa club.

In a beginning Salsa class you and your partner will learn not only some basic steps and other body positions, but how to feel the music and begin to express the music through your body. There is a basic body rhythm and some easy footwork that will become second-nature to you very quickly. Rather than being a little unsure when you go out Salsa dancing, you will be able to go out on the dance floor right away. You will be surprised to see how a few simple movements will make you fit right in at any Salsa club.

Watch the other people at the Salsa clubs when you go out dancing after you've taken a few Salsa classes. You may be really surprised to see that some of the moves that seemed complex a few weeks ago don't look quite as difficult that you once thought. That turn that looked so difficult the last time you saw it is just a modified version of the turn you learned in class. It will just take a bit of practice. You and your partner will probably be able to learn some more advanced moves just by having fun at the club.

Once you learn the basics and get more comfortable at the Salsa club, you can take some advanced classes and learn more elaborate footwork. Then you'll really be able to show off your dancing skills when you go out with your friends.

No matter whether you just take a few classes to learn the basics of Salsa or go on to advanced classes, the enjoyment you will get out of learning to Salsa is something you will have for the rest of your life.

Want to learn to dance? Wish you could move your body confidently on the dance floor? Or would you just like to have a great excuse to get out and meet people? Well for all of the above come and visit Dance Vogue where professional dancer and teacher Natalie Beck show you how to take the next step.

If you have your wedding around the corner and are worried about that first dance, Natalie has a lot of experience helping couples get confident and looking great dancing together in a short period of time. Have a look at her wedding dance lessons to get up to speed.

The Future is Unwritten-DVD Documentary

Julien Temple, one of the early documentarians of the London punk scene and director of the 2000 Sex Pistols film The Filth and the Fury, turns his attention now to that other seminal British band: The Clash--or more accurately, to the band's co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer, Joe Strummer. The Future is Unwritten is more than just a biography of Strummer; it is a tribute and exploration of a musician, artist and devoted humanist. Though Temple respects and admires Strummer (his influence is exalted by close friends, peers and fans like Bono and John Cusack), he doesn't romanticize this larger-than-life personality and presents Strummer honestly and not always in flattering light, though the director's fondness for his subject is constant. Most movingly, Strummer himself provides the narration via reassembled excerpts from a variety of interviews and the BBC radio show he hosted during the nineties. In the wrong hands, this could be contrived, but in this masterful documentary it serves as a testament to not just Joe Strummer the myth, but Joe Strummer the man, telling us his story in vivid detail. The Future is Unwritten is a moving and personal portrait of a musician who helped shaped not just punk, but modern music as a whole. --Kira Canny
Customer Review: Amazing movie about a rock legend
There have been several movies made about Joe Strummer but Julien Temple's is unique in its personal touch. Temple was a friend of Strummer's for many years and so had insight into the man behind the music that many people did not have. The movie consists of Joe's life story as told by many friends, acquaintances, fellow artists and others who knew him or were influenced by him over the years. Amazing music, very well put-together, and just a great story about a man who was a huge influence on rock & roll and politics during his time on this earth. Joe was taken from the world too early when he died unexpectedly in December 2002 and after watching this movie one can only wonder what more he would have accomplished. The opening scene of Joe singing "White Riot" a capella in the studio is complemented by the closing scene of Joe and Mick Jones reuniting on stage 20+ years later to perform the same song...even though they were old (and Mick a little bald!) they still ROCKED. If you like the Clash, you must see this movie!!

Customer Review: Sound engeneer where are you?
The sound quality is horrendous, Mana make a lot of money off there fans I could not believe my ears. I end up play the cd and the videos Simultaneously to be happy. A live concert DVD is needed MANA.
Customer Review: Great Mexican rock band, great songs but...
When they made the DVD, there are some things they should have changed on it. If you're a Mana fan, you'll know all the songs. One live track, a cover of "El Rey" filmed in Montreux Switerland shows of Alex Gonzalez's drumming, something that doesn't come through on their studio tracks. As far as the videos themselves go, you see it going from something that is borderline public access video, to some embarrassing videos that are kind of humorous, to a more polished look towards the "Suenos Liquidos" videos, where it ends. Nothing from "Revolucion de Amor" or their song with Carlos Santana "Corazon Espinado" (which is on Carlos' "Supernatural" DVD) is included. Here's the complaints that I found more annoying than anything: the cover of Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain", straight off of the "Econium" tribute video is them in the studio talking about recording the song. It either should be the full song or in the "extras". It's something that you wind up forwarding and gets annoying real fast. "Clavado En Un Bar" has 5 minutes of the "making of", yet you can't skip the making of, you have to forward it. Another one that belongs in the "extras". It's something that we should be able to enjoy with the TV on or off. The "in betweens" can get a little noisy at times but isn't a big deal. It's not in Surround Sound, but you can hear it playing in all the speakers. I'd like to see them revamp this one a little bit to make it more "DVD-friendly" and put out a live DVD which shows off how great they are in concert. Even if you don't understand Spanish, the music alone is good enough to enjoy...

It is too simple to learn, how one should play the blue guitar scale. The masters would definitely feel to most easy and smooth playing. However, playing guitar is an art. It is necessary to be in right hands to get wonderful music and beautiful rhythms. But suppose, it falls in wrong hands then, it will definitely sound unsophisticated as well as atonal. The person with right knowledge of playing blue scale guitar can release wonderful sound similar like an expert. It will make people shock and wondering, how anyone can learn so long about music theory fear. Well, the answer the answer of experts is, you just need to everything about blues scale, which covers every important thing one lesson itself.

The blues guitar scale is almost parallel or alike to that of the minor pentatonic scale. Well, it was resulted with indulgence of the flat fifth. The flat fifth is too unique and different having atonal quality. Well, it almost sounds having evil overtones and almost too dark sounding. Before so many years, it is believed that hundreds of years back the flat fifth was recognized as "The Devil's note". It was banned to use at many different places, it was believed that it invokes the devils.
Now days, people are getting more temperate towards the some of the interesting rhythms and their sounds as well. These interesting sounds are of the flat fifth. the other name given to these sounds are "blue" note. You will find that it has being applied or used everywhere over everything - different sound tracks. It is applied over rock and blues at same time from blues to jazz as well as from heavy metal to different world music.

My grandmother would have referred to sensual marketing as brazen and bold, and she had a point. In her day, marketing was simple and basic. We didnt have exotic toys, technology, and exquisite choices to make over simple purchases.

To be sure, oranges or lemons were often the only citrus fruit available at her daddys store. Even then, it was seasonal, rarely available for more than a few weeks at a time. Now our choices are more diverse.

Not only do we have access to more variety, but the flavors have been genetically enhanced to enrich the quality. Sinfully delicious envelops an entirely new dimension than it did in my grandmothers day.

1. Colorize your products for marketing appeal.

Depending on what youre selling, the color may impact your market more than youd have thought. Food is repulsive in unnatural colors. Business supplies are unappealing in earth tones. And who wants to drive a car the color of aging avocados? Marketing with color is evident in packaging.

2. Appeal to the greater sensibilities with sound.

Motivation comes best with a persistently happy tempo. Funerals have more impact with subdued volume and slower paced music. But if youre dancing, the Rumba beat is perfect. Sound has a definite appeal to the buying crowd. Notice the music playing next time youre in a grocery or department store.

3. Sensual fascination may cause greater purchasing.

When you can appeal to more than one of the five natural senses, your product may appear more acceptable. Perhaps the more of the five senses you can impact, the better your chances of selling your product. Marketing for sensual appeal means the sound, aroma and appearance of your product must be appealing. Once you can attract those senses, you can begin working on the feel and taste of the item.

One way you can appeal to a customers taste is to show the product with food.

Very Limited Edition. Includes a Bonus Six Track Disc and Different Artwork.
Customer Review: Well, Well. Yet another overpriced piece of work...
And I mean this literally. Should you own this? No. Should you get the ORIGINAL? The MORE AFFORDABLE version, with no lyrics and missing a bonus Japanese track, How You See The World? YES, MY *GOD* YES!! Cool, this version has an added song and the lyrics...(WHO DOESN'T LOVE READING ALONG?!?!?!). But at a price this over-bloated, PLEASE DON'T BOTHER!!!! No human with decent sense would pay for this!!!! Half of the tracks are upbeat which I prefer Coldplay's music to portray, and after studying this album's nooks and crannies, I found just TWO duds. b^_^b White Shadows, Fix You, Twisted Logic, Square One, Low, Speed Of Sound, Talk & X&Y are amongst the great tracks. But then you have filler tracks such as What If and Swallowed In The Sea. The rest of the CD is full of decent if just a tad forgetful tracks; A Message, The Hardest Part & Till Kingdom Come definitely fill my mind first. I was SO looking forward to this release because I have their 2 previous albums and I highly enjoyed tracks such as In My Place, Clocks and Daylight, for their uplifting, positive demeanor. Coldplay has an interesting lyric here and there, and my initial thoughts told me that it wasn't enough. White Shadows was a low point for me, but thank goodness I seen a quirky but awesome video to accompany the song, and I was totally, totally hooked! With that said, I can't wait to experience their new sound in mid-late 2008 or early 2009: I bet they release it around then and it'd be best if it were better than this one! Customer Review: Well, I can rate the first 13 tracks...
I don't have this import version, but I WOULD get it if it were 25 bucks or less. 46 bucks + is super-ridiculous and anyone who shells out that much is either: 1. Stupidly rich 2. Rich and stupid 3. Just plain rich 4. a HUGE, HUGE fan 5. All of the above No human with decent sense would pay for this otherwise. I fall into that category and none of the above ones (*LOL*!!). Here goes, Half of the tracks are upbeat which I prefer Coldplay's music to portray, and after studying this album's nooks and crannies, I found just TWO duds. b^_^b White Shadows, Fix You, Twisted Logic, Square One, Low, Speed Of Sound, Talk & X&Y are amongst the great tracks. Or at least here's to hoping... *Cheers* Keep it comin', Coldplay! You have fans other than the emotional girls that follow you. Some men, of all different walks of life appreciate your sensitive side too! ^_^ Cover Art: B- Inside Art: A- Songwriting: B+ Vocals: C+ Vocal Emotion: B+ Vocal Acrobatics: F+ Length: A+ 59.75/13 = 3.98076923076923 3.98 stars. Overall: B- Favorite tracks, in order: White Shadows, Fix You, Twisted Logic... P.S. When is Amazon going to get with the times and let us rate within .5 increments!? P.S. This HAS to be better than the all-Spanish review, right?

Gipsy Kings Fuego! The Videos

Music is an essential element in babies learning and development. Babies are musical beings and are fascinated by music from birth. Research has shown that music played to a child while still in the womb has a beneficial effect on the childs brain and helps to lay the foundation of later learning, music ability and language development. Music helps to relax you and your baby and can improve your babys memory development and sensory coordination.

Babies enjoy experiencing music and movement together. Teach songs with actions and encourage your baby to dance along to the music. Movement helps babies learn balance, coordination, body awareness and rhythm. Getting your baby to play an instrument will help with her creative development and help develop her fine motor skills. Music can also be a fun, special time to share with your baby.

There are many benefits of surrounding your baby with music. Music assists in the development of speech. Singing nursery rhymes and simple songs teaches a baby how language is constructed and assists with the acquisition of language. Singing songs with babies will also teach them about tone, beat and rhythm.

Having a few CDs with a variety of childrens songs will keep parents and babies amused. Babies will quickly pick up nursery rhymes and repetitive tunes and be singing along before you know it.

Including music as a routine part of your day will have many positive effects on your baby. Babies can be settled to sleep with music. A song sung by a parent or played on a CD routinely prior to sleep time can help to establish a good bedtime routine for babies.

Music can be effective in keeping babies entertained in the car on long trips. Ensure you have a variety of CDs. You can never have enough of them as parents quickly get bored by the same tunes playing over and over and over again.

If you play an instrument, learn a few nursery thymes to play and sing along with your baby. You will take pleasure in watching him dancing along to your tunes. The whole family can join in and enjoy the experience. If you dont play an instrument think about learning to play the guitar, it is relatively easy and the whole family will enjoy it for years to come.

The other day at a staff meeting, one of my co-workers was talking about a project that had gone badly off the rails. "Per angusta ad augusta," I said as he concluded his tale of woe. Everyone looked at me uncomprehendingly, of course. "You know through difficulties to honors," I said.

Now, I am definitely no Latin scholar, but I do arrive at staff meetings armed with several memorized phrases from the ancient tongue, ready to whip them out whenever the occasion permits. My source? Its a breezy little tome titled, Amo, Amas, Amat and More; How to Use Latin to Your Own Advantage and to the Astonishment of Others. Its author is Eugene Ehrlich, a renowned dictionary editor and contributor to other books about words.

The book is straightforwardly presented, with the Latin phrases given in alphabetical order. Each entry consists of the phrase followed by a phonetic rendering to assist in pronunciation, then its English translation and finally, in most instances, an explanatory paragraph to help elucidate the more mysterious of the offerings.

One aspect of Amo, Amas, Amat that is particularly helpful is that the author will occasionally translate a phrase using an equivalent English expression that might not be a word-for-word rendering (although he does provide the exact translation in the follow-up paragraph).

An example: "Aliquando bonus dormitat Homerus" is translated as "You cant win 'em all," but a more precise rendering would be, "Sometimes even good Homer dozes." Ehrlich offers the history behind this phrase, which helps us to understand why our common expression about not being able to "win 'em all" is indeed a good way to translate the Latin in this case.

Amo, Amas, Amat includes an introduction by William F. Buckley, Jr., as well as an index to the English translations, which makes for a nice cross-reference.

Amo, Amas, Amat was published by Harper & Row Publishers of New York; ISBN # 0-06-181249-8.

I can describe the latest release from Jazz super group Weather Report for you with just one word Outstanding!

It's a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I'm more than happy to announce thats exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.

One of the refreshingly nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and youve got one of Weather Report most impressive releases ever.

Overall Mr Gone is excellent from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Jazz fan. Really sensational from beginning to end.

While this entire CD is outstanding some of my favorites are track 2 - River People, track 3 - Young And Fine, and track 8 - And Then

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - The Pursuit Of The Woman With The Feathered Hat. Outstanding!
